Project #5 will be a 1934 Ford coupe modified. This car will race with my vintage club and will be built from several parts from different race cars, starting with a old sprint car frame with a different front clip from a car that was being built in the 60's and didn't get finished. I will give more detail about the parts that I use as the project progresses.
The old sprint frame was built originally by John Lane of KC. and rebuilt later by Virgil Newman, then sold and used for a sand dragster. The front clip was built and being used for a rear engine sprint car by Ed McVay in the mid 60's. The rear half was used in a street rod so the front half will be grafted onto this old sprint frame.
This car will be stretched out to 103 inch wheel base to be legal for our SMVR. I will also be adding as much iron as I can to meet the 2400 minimum weight. I am moving along quite well on this project so check back for more progress pictures soon.
The picture above shows I have welded the front frame section and axle with torsion bars in place. You can get a general idea on how this car will look. I have stretched the frame to 103 inch wheel base to meet our SMVR rules.

The picture above shows I have installed the quick change rear end and have started to fit the 34 coupe body. This was an original race car body and I have narrowed it to fit the old sprint car frame. The frame has always been inside but I will do a lot of reinforcing with extra tubing to be on the safe side. I want all cars to be safe that races in our vintage club, no matter how heavy the car is built. We must always put safety ahead of everything.
