Here is one of my latest found treasures. It is an early supermodified that raced at Marshall MO and several other tracks in this area, including Knoxville Iowa. I believe it was built in 1959 and last raced in 1966.
This car has an in and out box and small V-8 quick change rearend. This is another car I plan to restore back to the way it was when raced.
Above is a picture of a 1950 Olds coupe that was built and raced by George Cooper at I-70 Speedway. It ran on the asphalt when the track was first built in the early 70's. You can see more of this car on my greatest photo collections (Doug Parry's page). I was glad to be able to purchase this car from George and add it to my collection. .
The next eight pictures below were added on Nov 12, 03
In the picture above you can see that I am loading as many old racers as I can on my trailer to bring back home from southern Missouri.
Well I made the trip just fine now all I have to do is get these old treasures back down off my trailer.
I sure got lots of looks on the way back on my trip. Even the highway patrol had to pull me over to have a closer look. Although I don't think it was old race cars he was interested in seeing. I guess we can't all be old race car lovers but who cares? I plan to bring back all these old treasures I can find and afford to buy. So don't forget if any of you know of some please get ahold of Grandpa and let me know where they are at. At least all of you can enjoy the pictures and maybe someday come by my place and have a look. I plan to have a small inside museum in the future. More on that a little later.
The picture above shows me loading the old chassis from Crowder MO. This old racer was believed to have a cut down truck cab and raced in Cape Giradeau MO.
In the picture above the man holding the board of old car emblems is who I bought the old chassis from and he sure was proud of the collection.
This picture is the way the old modified chassis was found. Not a lot left but as everyone can see I like the old racers and any part I can save.
The picture above is of an old supermodified. Don't know a lot about this car, I do know it was raced and came from around Sikeston MO. The car still has a Franklin quick change with Buick aluminum brakes and a real neat and well built old Plymouth front straight axle. I plan to restore this car although I am not sure what kind of body I will use but it is a real nice old chassis.
In the picture above is a 1935 Plymouth coupe not a lot left but as you can see she was a real war horse. If these old cars could only talk, I am sure we would hear some great old racing stories. It is so beat up that I didn't think it would matter or if anyone could tell the difference so I put it on the bottom of the load so I could bring all three old treasures back at the same time.
